“You can’t write a song, by committee!”
This week Jethro talks with The Village A.K.A. Phil Matthews, and what a talk it was! As much as Phil talked about what The Village is about (Him) we also got talking about how he goes about recording (spoiler!! NO DAW!) And we got talking about influences and how they went about recording, which musical types out there JUST MAKE MUSIC!!

- First this week, our good old (but not that old) Jim’s band Pagan Storm have released their first original song as a full band. The track is called “Winterstorm” and is on their YouTube channel. If you wanna do some Lord of the Rings style roaming through the forest fighting orcs or you just wanna go do some pillaging and mead drinking with your best Viking pals then you could do much worse than to use this as a soundtrack!
- Myles Knight, a local blues rock artist who released his EP “Songs for Every Occasion” in September 2020, has announced an hour long acoustic livestream on the 20th of March on his Facebook. During the livestream he plans to shave his currently slightly luscious locks, with all donations going to Macmillan Cancer Support and his hair going to The Little Princess Trust, an awesome charity that donates wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatments and other conditions. His Facebook page is below and also there is a link to donate, with Miles setting his target at £300.
- Local gritty but catchy rock band Pretty Babs have released their first single of 2021 following on from the three huge singles last year, titled “Revolution in the Head”. The track is the kind of song that makes you miss live music and beer, that’s for sure, and is available on major platforms now!
- Finally, Circles comes out this Friday! This is the second single of 2021 for my band Decade and a Day and we couldn’t be more excited. We have posted a snippet on our Facebook of the track, please check it out, give us a like and chat with us in the comments section!
